Who we are.

General

Plasma Pulse is a fiction company created by me, Michael Lawson, this mainly serves as a sort of portfolio of my work. Some 3D modeling, some graphic design, and a whole lot of practice in marketing/advertising. I want this to showcase my journey of getting into web development as well as 3D modeling and graphic design. This page will serve as a place to show my work that may not exactly fit the Plasma Pulse persona, so expect some things that may not exactly be GPUs.

What Inspires Me?

Honestly, I don’t have a really direct answer; it could be a song I listened to, something I saw, or just a random thought I had and I just execute on it the best way I can. I enjoy being able to create what is envisioned in my mind and it’s mostly for my own fulfillment, my creativity is pretty much all I’ve got.

What do I struggle with?

I definitely struggle with long-term investment in large projects and perfectionism. Large projects of course require long-term investment, and I tend to lose interest in something after a long while and it’s tough for me to get back into it. Perfectionism is a whole other beast.

Perfectionism is one of the sharpest double-edge swords I can think of, on one hand: it ensures the work you do is always to the best of your ability, on the other: you feel nothing you make is at the best of your ability, there’s always something that you can add or tweak, and that your “finished” work is never really finished. One of my favorite quotes is from the multi-Michelin Star chef Marco Pierre White, “Perfection is lots of little things done well,” this happens to also be the quote Plasma Pulse as a company references. Perfection is the cumulation of a lot of aspects done right, but that’s not all: Marco also says frequently, “Through accepting imperfection, you begin to create perfection.” And as I’ve taken this in, I’ve taken control of my want of perfection. The best thing for a perfectionist is learn when to stop and accept the little imperfections.

Who I am.

My name is Michael Lawson, and as of me typing this, I am 20 years old and aspiring to get into the world of graphic design and marketing. While I currently have no professional experience, I am using this website I created with SquareSpace to practice and grow my skills. I have taken marketing classes in college, but I know that I will learn at a quicker rate if I take the time to practice on my own, especially in an industry that is heavily revolved around experience level.

My creativity is what drives me, it’s why I chose to learn through practicing on my own rather than taking the school route. I never feel true satisfaction about what I create for a school project versus when I create something on my own. I dislike being too heavily limited with what I can do. Whether I’m drawing, suffering in Photoshop or Illustrator, or trying to not suck at 3D modeling, I know that whatever the finished product is, I would be much more satisfied with it than something where I felt I was crammed into a carboard box.

Why Marketing?

I’ve sort of always had an interest in creating fake brands as a way to create an experience and put myself in a certain mindset whenever I’m creating something. It sort of all started with a fake car manufacturer I created in the game LittleBigPlanet 3 named TechRally. TechRally was a brand that specialized in the creation of high-end sports and luxury cars, with its flagship luxury model being named Specter and its flagship sports model being named the XY49. It was heavily inspired by Rolls-Royce and it was very evident in the design I had created for the Specter, it being heavily inspired by the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

As TechRally developed, I decided a great way to share my creations with the world is to create advertisements for them, which began my journey into the world of advertisement. As I’ve stated, I enjoy creating a memorable experience, not just for profit, but for really my own fulfillment. As someone who has been drawing pretty much all my life and wanting my work to be a dip into the world in my head, it’s always nice when I can create a positive effect with my work, even if only three people see it.
